Many of our dancers and singers across all disciplines received numerous scholarships, bursaries, awards and Top 3 placings in local festivals – over 400 individual awards and honours went to Richmond Academy students!

Many of our professional division Jazz students attended NUVO Dance Convention in Bellevue where our dancers, Theresa van den Boer, Livia Tong and Hailey Cheung were announced as “Breakout Artists”! Cailtin Antolis received “Die-Hard” Tap Dancer Award; Aiva Back received a Tap scholarship; Imogen Kalmar, Kate Murray, Malika Traore all received Musical Theatre scholarships; Jocelyn Ly and Seraphina Kwok received Hip hop Scholarships; Helena Ayas received a Ballet Scholarship and Olivia Lehmann received a Ballroom scholarship!

Our Professional Division Ballet students competed in Toronto at the International Youth America Grand Prix and Lyra McDonald was awarded both “Top 12 Senior Classical Dancer” and “Top 12 Senior Contemporary Dancer” and Valerie Chan was awarded “Top 12 Pre-Competitive Ballet Dancer” and “Top 24 Contemporary Dancer”, Theresa van den Boer received “Top 12 Senior Classical Award”, Rachel Yu “Top 24 Pre-Competitive Classical Award and Top 24 Contemporary Award”, Sophie Tang “Top 24 Senior Classical Dancer”, and our Contemporary Ballet Trio ‘In-Pulse’ was awarded “Top 12 Small Ensemble”! Wonderful work all around!

We are very proud of all our soloists, duets, trios and groups that represented the Academy at the Surrey Festival No Borders Honours Performance, Synergy Showdown, Final “One”, Kiwanis Festival Honours Performance, and Global BC Provincials, all by invitation-only! Our students competed in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Voice, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Modern!

• Our Ballet Group, "Dance Odyssey" was announced 1st Overall at Surrey Festival of Dance, 2nd Overall at Allegro Ballet Festival and were recipients of the "Grace" Award from Surrey Festival and will be representing at the Performing Arts BC Provincials and BC Provincials!

• Our Modern Group "Daybreak" was announced 1st Overall, Highest Score and Adjudicators pick at Allegro Festival and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Jazz Group, "Stare" was announced 1st Overall and were recipients of the "Energy" Award from Surrey Festival and will be representing at the Performing Arts BC Provincials! 

• Our Ballet Group, "Suspended In Air" was announced 1st Overall at Festival du Ballet and were recipients of the "Grace" Award and chosen to represent at the BC Provincials! 

• Our Tap Group, "Sound & Colour"" was announced 1st Overall Group and Showdown Winner at Synergy Dance Competition and and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Song & Dance Group, "Together We Stand" was announced 1st Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Tap Group, "Ray's Suite"" was announced 1st Overall at The One Dance Experience!

• Our Song & Dance Group, "Pandomonium" was announced 1st Overall at Centrestage and 2nd Overall at The One Dance Experience!

• Our Jazz Group, "Stranger Things” was announced 1st Overall at Centrestage! They are also headed to "The Final One"!

• Our Tap Group, "Stand By Me" was announced 1st Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and Centrestage!

• Our Hip Hop Group, "Red Dior" was announced 2nd Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and 3rd Overall at The One Dance Experience and are headed to the "Final One"!

• Our Tap Group, "Poinciena" was announced 2nd Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and The One Dance Experience!

• Our Stage Group, "Whodunnit" was announced 2nd Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Jazz Group, "Lovely Day” was announced 2nd Overall at Centrestage and 2nd Overall at The One Dance Experience!

• Our Jazz Group, "Sophisticated Art" was announced Highest Score and 2nd Overall at Synergy Dance Competition! They are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Tap Group, "Poinciana" was announced 2nd Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and The One and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Lyrical Group, "I Will Walk With You” was announced 2nd Overall at Allegro Ballet Festival and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Hip Hop Group, "Mini Biscuits" was announced 3rd Overall at The One Dance Experience, Synergy Dance Competition and Centrestage!

• Our Lyrical Group, "Here Right Now" was announced 3rd Overall at Allegro Ballet Festival and are headed to BC Provincials!

• Our Song & Dance Group, "Lament” was announced 3rd Overall at Synergy Dance Competition and are headed to the BC Provincials!

These are only some of our overall group awards, there are many more as well as numerous individual top awards. These wonderful results and accolades in all disciplines highlight the multi-disciplinary training the Academy is known for.

Big congratulations also to our faculty who received choreography awards; Stephanie Amurao, Penelope Boyse, Reid Cuming, Tatiana Jakubowski, Danny Nielsen, Monica Proenca, Laura Ross, and Jacq Smith.

Another amazing highlight of this year was our Royal Academy of Dance Exams! The Academy prepared 150 students for the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance examinations this past Spring! Our entrants executed exam work from the Grade 1 to Advanced 2 levels. These exams are a prestigious goal requiring intense commitment and hard work. We are so proud of the dedication and work ethic these dancers have shown!
